KOA (Kampgrounds of America) Lake Isabella
Becks & I set off this morning walking through private land & the bottom of Cane Break Road. This led to Highway 178 which was about 2 hours from our campsite.
When we reached Cane Break Road we were greeted by scores of Fire Fighters & vehicles heading for the fire zone. It was dusty!!!
Of real interest though was one of the senior firemen stopping to check that we were the last ones out. He suggested we might be back on trail within 24 to 48 hours as they had been in contact with the PCT organisation. They were confident of containing most of the fire today then working to reopen the trail....yay!!! A PR guy from the Fire Service at the road was not so up to date but supported what we were trying to do.
With the new information we altered our plans to end up here 15 mile away at the campground with a view to being on trail again in the next 1 to 2 days. We did see this information at the end of the road
Once we got here we were also made aware of an alternative hike into Kennedy Meadows from a different direction. We will however make a few phone calls later today for updates to determine what happens next....Weta
Wow Weta,
ReplyDeleteYou have certainly had your share of excitement over the last few days.
We have had flash flooding from sunny coast to Goldie here with torrents of water descending upon us. My water tank was literally overflowing.
I'm not sure about stabbing a snake Roger, or scorpions under pillows but it's going to make a fab read if you get to write that book. With your passion for prose I reckon that's got to happen. Stay strong and focussed you got this mate xx

DeleteThanks Daylene. Tell you what I am struggling with...3pm Saturday & it's 39 degrees. And we are contemplating heading back on trail. With 5% humidity that's seriously dry. Take care there xx
