Day 98 - A Town Called Etna

Mile 1588.3 to Mile 1604.8 - 16.5 miles

Another resupply day - this time in an old gold mining town called Etna - a bit like a Waihi or Reefton. The old buildings and houses have generally been looked after with the town having a nice sleepy feel to it - perhaps it was the 40 degree plus temperatures!!
Anyway, after a quick 9 miles to the road in the morning I got the first vehicle being a British Columbia couple who were down spending time in their family home. Etna was able to supply me with a shower, laundry, Wi-Fi, resupply & a great burger at Dottys!! The hitch back was also no problem with a guy who makes 4/5 trips a day ferrying hikers the 10 miles to Etna summit.
One of the more unusual features of Etna is that this small community has two Greek Orthodox Churches...go figure
Back on the trail at 4.30 pm I did another 7.6 miles before calling it a day. This wasn't before my old hiker buddy from day one, Sebastian, caught and passed at the 1600 mile mark....Weta
